Throughout fall 2020, these UCSB creators have been experimenting with art, movement and dance film to create multifaceted short form expressions of their inner beings and reflections upon what they are experiencing and watching what others are experiencing. Please browse the films collected below. They are presented in no particular order. Each artist has their own page with one to two short films. This is your self guided virtual film festival. A smorgasboard of some unique and marvelous work all created during a time of uncertainty, less freedom and asking or creators to truly make a new mold for dance expression while they wait to be live and on stage again. DANCE IN PANDEMIC
As we navigate how to best reflect our artform that is based in physical connection, bodies in the same space lifting each other and leaning into each other, we are being asked to find new relationships to space, time, and other humans as we create the dance art for 2020/21. Seconds matter in dance, it is a split second artform that works like a finely tuned watch. Zoom lag times between participants cannot be mitigated in dance performance, so we turn to the finely tuned tool of filmaking.
